چکیده

Neurons in the monkey motor cortex that project to the spinal cord to control particular muscle contractions and movements have been found to discharge again while the monkey simply watches another primate make similar movements: monkey see; monkey not do.

The Expression implication of GDNF in ventral horn and associated remote cortex in rhesus monkeys with hemisected spinal cord injury

Objective(s): Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) can effectively promote axonal regeneration, limit axonal retraction, and produce a statistically significant improvement in motor recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the role in primate animals with SCI is not fully cognized. Materials and Methods:18 healthy juvenile rhesuses were divided randomly into six groups, obs...

Protective effect of curcumin and Curcuma longa extract on apoptosis of motor neurons in cultured spinal cord slices of adult mouse

Introduction: Since Curcuma longa extract and curcumin have been shown to be potent antioxidant agents, they were used in cultured adult mouse spinal cord slices to investigate whether they can inhibit apoptosis in motor neurons. Methods: Slices from the thoracic region of adult mice spinal cord were divided into four groups: 1. Freshlyprepared slices (time 0) 2. Control 3. Slices treated by cu...

Corticospinal mirror neurons

Here, we report the properties of neurons with mirror-like characteristics that were identified as pyramidal tract neurons (PTNs) and recorded in the ventral premotor cortex (area F5) and primary motor cortex (M1) of three macaque monkeys. We analysed the neurons' discharge while the monkeys performed active grasp of either food or an object, and also while they observed an experimenter carryin...

Population-based corticospinal interactions in macaques are correlated with visuomotor processing.

Visuomotor transformation is a fundamental process in executing voluntary actions. The final steps of this transformation are presumed to take place in the corticospinal (CS) system, yet the way in which the motor cortex (MC) interacts with spinal circuitry during this process is unclear. We studied neural correlates of visuomotor transformation in the MC and cervical spinal cord while monkeys ...

Induction of c-fos expression in cervical spinal interneurons after kainate stimulation of the motor cortex in the rat.

The expression of the immediate-early gene c-fos was used as a marker of neuronal activity to investigate the cervical spinal interneuron populations involved in the corticomotoneuronal pathway. Adult rats received unilateral kainate injections in the forelimb area of the primary motor cortex. After a survival period of 90 min, during which the animals showed vehement twitching of the contralat...
